As a multi GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and remixer, Kaskade is a titan in the dance music world, and a groundbreaking innovator in the music industry as a whole. He has kicked down doors and pushed boundaries in genre-defying “firsts”. He was the first DJ to conceptualize and hold down the now PopStar littered landscape of the Las Vegas residency. Kaskade also has the distinction of being the first ever solo electronic dance artist to sell-out both the Barclays Center in NYC and the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Billboard Magazine declared that Kaskade’s 2012 Freaks of Nature Tour was “the only successful national stadium tour undertaken by a solo electronic music artist.”
And Kaskade doesn’t stop there. His handwriting is all over the history of electronic music, with broad strokes particularly on the West Coast. In May of 2016 he broke ground with another landmark feat. Tickets sold out for his anticipated performance at the Los Angeles Convention Center in a staggering four minutes online. With 30,000 tickets sold in record time, Kaskade’s loyal fans were clamoring to witness this venue’s first time welcoming a dance music artist in its 45-year history. Kaskade completed the weekend takeover of Los Angeles by setting up a pop-up shop on Fairfax, and sold out two more LA venues.
Kaskade has nine full-length chart-topping albums, a standout characteristic in the dance music industry. His latest, Automatic [Warner Bros. Records/Arkade] claimed the #2 spot on the Billboard Dance /Electronic Albums Chart. Automatic commanded a Top 15 placement on the U.S. Digital Chart, as well as amassing over 50 million streams on Spotify in less than a year’s time. Rolling Stone asserts that “Kaskade represents an intensely positive side of dance music culture”, another cornerstone in the foundation that sets Kaskade apart.
While Kaskade has played the legendary two-weekend Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival three times, it was his epic 2015 performance that changed the game. He was the only electronic artist to take the main stage that year, and Pitchfork proclaimed that, “You see Kaskade play the main stage to a mass of humanity larger than damn near every act I’ve mentioned combined.” Mashable crunched the numbers, placing Kaskade in The 10 most Instagrammed shows at Coachella, showing that he doesn’t only hold his own when playing alongside the biggest artists on today’s music scene, he dominates. Kaskade had more engagement “meaning likes and comments – on photos featuring relevant hashtags and keywords” related to his performance at Coachella that weekend than his fellow headliners AC/DC, Jack White and even Drake, proving that Kaskade reigns supreme.
Crowned by The New York Times as “the new face of electronic dance music,” Kaskade has been bridging the gap between old school music purists and a new generation of music lovers. Relentlessly touring the world and playing to tens of millions people around the globe, he has been in the trenches for over a decade, laying the groundwork for a titanic musical and cultural shift. Kaskade received his fourth consecutive GRAMMY® nomination in the category of “Best Remixed Recording” for his edit of Galantis’ “Smile.” Previously, his eighth studio album Atmosphere respectively scored him his second and third GRAMMY® nominations for “Best Dance Recording” and “Best Dance/Electronica album.” He received his first nomination for his double
album Fire & Ice, which debuted No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album chart. With his unique creative prowess, the two-time “America’s Best DJ” titleholder has created chart-topping remixes for everyone from Lana Del Rey to Beyoncé.
In-step with Kaskade’s headlining every major festival in North America, he also holds down one of the most coveted resident spots in the world. Kaskade developed the idea of a DJ residency in 2010 with Wynn Las Vegas at Encore Beach Club. He returned to take over their nightlife venue as well, XS Nightclub, where he held down a multi-year exclusive contract. Most recently, Kaskade joined the Hakkasan Group’s 2017 artist roster with an unprecedented multi-venue long-term residency. A pioneer in reshaping the Las Vegas entertainment landscape, Kaskade’s lead has been followed by top-tier entertainers from all around the world.
Alongside these accomplishments, Kaskade’s most ambitious and proficient skill is rooted in his live shows. His vision for the spectacle he wants to create for his audience comes to life with the help of his handpicked and carefully curated team. Kaskade is meticulous about the quality of sight and sound in his arena-sized performances, and the results are stunning. Massive LED screens, sometimes rigged to move around the audience, paired with evocative images programmed to echo the sentiment of the music they are synched with mesmerize anyone fortunate enough to witness this vision.
“I’m trying to create an environment where you can lose yourself in these really big, grand, euphoric moments and to do that, there has to be a certain intensity. We’re barraged with so much information in modern-day culture, and I want people to forget their worries and cares and be able to come together and celebrate life by hearing these songs that they love, with words that have touched them in a certain way. That’s what I’m trying to do at each and every show.”
While Kaskade’s audience is worldwide and is made of millions of fans, he has developed a standout personal connection with them via social media, resulting in a wildly loyal and engaged following. With over 4 million fans and followers across his social media channels, Kaskade’s reach is personal and global. He continues to treat his supporters to free music downloads and has made his music catalogue available for free online. His mantra to “let the music speak” does just that – keeps the conversation with his audience going through the availability of his music, paying more than lip service to their devotion.
Kaskade made headlines during the premiere of the documentary Electric Daisy Carnival Experience in Los Angeles. His plan to play on a flatbed truck down Hollywood Blvd was broadcast via his Twitter platform. A testament to his far reaching influence, the street was filled – and shut down – by thousands of fans who ignited the city filling every inch of Hollywood Blvd in hopes of seeing and hearing the icon perform. This unprecedented event caught everyone by surprise, but ended peacefully when Kaskade urged his fans to peacefully clear the streets. Proof of his far-reaching influence, the crowd dissipated almost immediately.
Throughout his career Kaskade has bent the curve by which his contemporaries measure themselves. With an ever-evolving sound but a consistent focus on lyrics and melody, he has established himself as an able musician with an uncanny knack to know and shape what’s coming next in sound, performance and engagement with a very dialed-in and discriminating audience.
